Frontline Plus For Dogs

Frontline Plus is one of the leading medicines for ticks, lice, and fleas. Many veterinarians recommend this drug for both cats and dogs. The product is deemed to work very well, as it can eliminate fleas in as little as 18 hours and ticks in as fast as 48 hours. The product is also known to provide prolonged protection to your pet for up to a month after the first use.

Frontline Plus is a topical treatment for dogs and cats to control ticks, fleas, and lice. When applied to the skin of a pet, the drug's active ingredient eliminates the parasites on hair and skin.

Inside every pack of Frontline Plus are active ingredients that can kill 98 to 100% of fleas and ticks. Frontline plus contains fipronil and S-methoprene that kills fleas and disrupts their life cycle. When used on your pet with fleas and ticks, it would work to eliminate even the larvae and the eggs produced. With regular use, all parasites are eliminated accordingly. This is a broad spectrum insecticide that is a GABA receptor antagonist that works via chloride channel blockade. It is safe for mammalian exposure because of the lack of such receptors in the peripheral nervous system and because of its lack of measurable systemic absorption after topical application. It is labeled for puppies and kittens of 8 weeks.

Frontline Plus as a drip-on requires less volume than the available spray, but convenience is balanced by the fact that the drip-on is not as effective on larger dogs. Fipronil binds chemically to the hair, stratum corneum and is absorbed through the follicle by the sebaceous glands. It kills at 95% for 1 month with a bath every two weeks. Monthly application to dogs is sufficient to break the life cycle but only in a close environment. So if you take your dog to the park or other locations frequently, you may find that Frontline Plus is not the optimal product for control.

Frontline Plus Flea Treatment

Frontline Plus is recommended for both dogs and cats. However, your pet should be 8 weeks or older to be able to use the product. This is the ideal age of pets to achieve maximum effects and benefits. Also, it isn't advisable to use Frontline Plus on kittens weighing less than 3 pounds and on puppies less than 5 pounds. The product can be used on pregnant and lactating pets but it is discouraged for convalescent or sick animals.

Frontline Plus comes with an easy-to-use applicator that allows you to put the product on your pet's skin and hair. Ideally apply between your dog's shoulder blades and at the back of its neck. Place all the contents of the drip-on package on one spot of your dog's body. This helps prevent any oral ingestion of the chemicals, which would be contraindicated. Do not apply to a pet that is wet or damp.

Frontline Plus is a long-lasting topical treatment for skin parasites. It is recognized for a full month or protection but repeated treatments can be applied as early as three weeks. Due to the nature of the treatment, bathing and swimming will not affect it's efficacy once it is absorbed (within 2 days of the treatment).

Frontline Plus is sold in 3-dose and 6-dose packages. Dosages are available for cats/kittens, dogs up to 22 lbs, 23 to 44 lbs, 45 to 88 lbs, and for bigger dogs weighing 89 to 132 lbs. Get the one that matches your dog's body weight. Make it a point to use the pack that matches your dog's weight to prevent overdose. This is a systemic anti-parasitic, which means it is absorbed by your dog's system. It doesn't just sit on top of their skin. So you need to be sure to use the dosage appropriate for your dog. Overdose can definitely be dangerous for your dog.

A prescription is not required and so it's readily available in many locations including most veterinarians, pet supply stores and online destinations. It's popularity is based on this and it's overall effectiveness.

Keep in mind, Frontline Plus may cause eye irritation. Avoid your eyes and mouth during application. If you have allergic reactions to alcohol and insecticides, Frontline Plus may be irritating to you. Store the product in a cool, dry place and out of reach of children.

For best results with Frontline Plus, all the fleas and ticks hiding in your dog's beddings and sleeping area must be eradicated. Other products, including many natural ones, including sprays and powders and foggers, can be used to control the indoor environment.
