Insect Growth Regulators (IGR) mimic insect hormones involved in egg hatching and insect maturation. An insect egg exposed to the appropriate IGR fails to hatch and dies before becoming an adult. An IGR does not kill adult fleas.
By killing flea eggs and adults, Bio Spot Spot On Flea & Tick Control for Dogs interrupts the flea life cycle. Since the eggs are killed, fleas will not develop into biting adults and the life cycle is broken.
Bio Spot Spot On Flea & Tick Control for Dogs kills flea eggs; kills and repels adult fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes on contact and keeps working for up to a full month. Application of this product is easy. Bio Spot comes in convenient 3 and 6-month packaging, with weight ranges from 15 lbs. and under to 60 lbs. and over. Depending on your dog's size, Bio Spot is applied to different areas on the body, such as between the shoulder blades and at the base of the tail. Always read the label before applying since application sites vary depending on the dog's weight.
Upon application, the ingredients in this product are dispersed through the oils in the dog's coat, moving from hair to hair as the dog moves. It is important to note that Bio Spot for dogs is hazardous for other pets. Do not use Bio Spot on cats, ferrets or any animals other than the appropriate sized dog for the dosage in question. Cats and ferrets are sensitive to the permethrin found in this product. Cats and ferrets should be kept separate from dogs treated with Bio Spot within the last 24 hours. If your dog shows signs of irritation or sensitivity to the product (redness or itchiness at the application site), discontinue use. Bathe the dog with a mild, non-insecticidal shampoo and seek veterinary advice.

Using this product every four weeks throughout mosquito season helps prevent mosquitoes from biting your dog and so, helps prevent a possible infestation of heartworms.
As with all on-animal insecticides, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian before using this product with any other flea and tick control product or drug. But, it shouldn't be necessary to use another product on your dog at the same time you use this product. Using another on-animal product will not provide better protection. If you opt for seasonal use, consider applying the first application of Bio Spot in late winter to help prevent infestation that can appear in the early Spring. Once it is dry, it's fine for children and all other family members to have normal contact with your dog.
